Day 14: A Split Day

On Monday, we divided into two separate groups. "Group A" went with Madame Robillard to Caen and "Group B" went with Madame Worster, Monsieur Tarter, and Madame Tarter to Mont St. Michel. Today's blog will begin with the pictures and descriptions for "Group A" --- the same for "Group B" will eventually follow.

Group A

Our day began with a visit to the Museum of the Battle of Normandy in Bayeux.

Riley, Genasee, Michaela, & TJ in front of a World War II tank outside of the Museum of the Battle of Normandie in Bayeux.
These are just three out of several monument stones erected on the grounds of the museum. Because we were there just four days after the 69th anniversary of D-Day, there were wreaths of flowers at all the markers. Most of the special ornaments were of poppy flowers, the symbol of remembrance for those soldiers who paid the ultimate price in war.

Some of the poppies were not ornamental, they were alive and growing on the grounds of the museum.
We then walked a bit less than a mile from the museum to the train station. On our way, we came across some of the infamous "Normandy cows" --- they sure make good butter and cheese!
The train ride from Bayeux to Caen took less than 20 minutes --- and by now we are experienced train travelers in France!

A panoramic view of the Memorial Museum in Caen. This was our first real stop in Caen. This is an amazing museum. Here is a link with all the details about the museum.
